<br />I. POLICY
<br />
<br />It is the policy of the Surprise Police Department to provide those employees
<br />who may be responding to incidents involving hazardous materials or incidents of
<br />WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) and who could be exposed to
<br />atmospheric contamination be provided with the appropriate Personal Protective
<br />Equipment (PPE) to include Air Purifying Respirators. The Department of Safety
<br />and Health Administration has created the Occupational Safety and Health
<br />Standards that employers must comply with when providing employees with
<br />PPE. It is the goal of the Surprise Police Department to comply with all
<br />applicable OSHA standards to ensure the health and safety of its employees.

<br />II. DEFINITIONS
<br />
<br />A. APR - Air Purifying Respirator.
<br />B. CBRNE - Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive.
<br />C. PPE- Personal Protective Equipment, such as rubber gloves, chemical
<br />tape, tybex coveralls, aprons, or gas masks
<br /> D. S.C.B.A. – Self Contained Breathing Apparatus
<br />E. NIOSH - National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
<br />F. ANSI - American National Standards Institute
<br />G. HCP – Health Care Provider
<br />H. WMD - Weapon of Mass Destruction
<br />I. IDLH - Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health
<br />J. OSHA - Occupational Safety and Health Administration
<br />K. RPPA - Respirator Protection Program Administrator- Designee appointed
<br />.

<br />III. PROCEDURE
<br />
<br />A. Application - OSHA requires certain employers to develop and implement
<br />a written Respirator Protection Program with required worksite-specific
<br />procedures and elements for required respirator use. In any workplace
<br />where respirators are necessary to protect the health of the employee or
<br />whenever respirators are required by the employer, OSHA requires the
<br />employer to establish and implement this required Respirator Protection
<br />Program. The program will be updated as necessary to reflect those
<br />changes in workplace conditions that affect respirator use.
<br />B. Respirator Protection Program - The employee appointed will be qualified
<br />through appropriate training and/or experience that is commensurate with
