<br />I. PURPOSE
<br />
<br />The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures and guidelines regarding
<br />civil matters and the service of court orders by Department members.
<br />
<br />II. POLICY
<br />
<br />The policy of the Surprise Police Department is to become involved in civil
<br />matters only to the extent necessary to preserve the peace. Department
<br />members shall review, verify, serve, and enforce civil court orders only as
<br />mandated by law or outlined in this policy. When questions arise concerning the
<br />legal process surrounding civil matters, the matter will be referred to the Police
<br />Legal Advisor. When questions arise outside of normal business hours, any on-
<br />duty sergeant or the on-duty/on-call lieutenant may contact the legal advisor.

<br />III. DEFINITIONS
<br />
<br />TERM DEFINITION
<br />An Order of Protection that is granted by an on-call judge via
