PURPOSE <br /> <br />The Surprise Police Department is committed through established Community <br />Policing initiatives to the Community Relations and Crime Prevention programs, <br />and is dedicated to enhancing relationships with, and responding to, the needs <br />of the citizens it serves. <br /> <br />II. POLICY <br /> <br />The policy of the Surprise Police Department is to maintain a Community <br />Relations and Crime Prevention component, to be known as the Community <br />Relations Unit, within the Department. The unit is the responsibility of an <br />assigned Supervisor from the Administrative Services Division. While this unit <br />directly addresses Community Relations and Crime Prevention, it is the <br />responsibility of all Department employees to positively promote these programs <br />and address these areas of concern. <br /> <br />III. PROCEDURE <br /> <br />A. Community Relations <br /> <br />1. The Community Relations Supervisor is responsible for supervising <br />all operations and activities of the Community Relations and Crime <br />Prevention Unit. <br /> <br />2. The Community Relations Supervisorshall establish provisions, <br />relative to Community Relations, that encompass the following <br />areas which may be combined with the Crime Prevention efforts: <br /> <br />a. Become a mediator with formal community organizations <br />and other community groups regarding problems and <br />concerns, suggestions on new programs, and how to <br />improve on existing programs, information sharing, etc. <br />b. Create realistic and effective policies regarding Community <br />Relations for the Department. <br />c. Promote the agency's objectives regarding problem <br />identification and solution(s) in the area of Community <br />Relations. <br />d. Ensure concerns voiced by citizen organizations are <br />communicated to the Department through the following: <br /> <br /> <br />
