<br />I. PURPOSE
<br />
<br />This policy establishes procedures concerning the inventory and control of
<br />Department-issued property.
<br />
<br />II. POLICY
<br />
<br />The Surprise Police Department stores and maintains property and equipment
<br />for issuance to Department personnel. All operational property (radios,
<br />handcuffs, batons, special equipment, etc.) shall be stored and maintained in a
<br />state of operational readiness (working, clean and available) by the supervisor or
<br />Commander over the function to which the property is assigned. Such equipment
<br />is subject to periodic inspection. The supervisor/commander is responsible for
<br />determining the operational property needs for the function and requesting that
<br />such property be obtained. (17.5.3)

<br />III. DEFINITIONS
<br />
<br />
<br />Department Armorer Personnel assigned to the Training Unit who are
<br />certified to make minor repairs and complete
<br />cleanings of Department weapons.
<br />Equipment Custodian The employee assigned to maintain an inventory of
<br />Department-issued equipment for use by
<br />Department personnel. The Equipment Custodian
<br />responsibility is delegated to an assigned
<br />Community Service Officer (CSO).
<br />Operational Readiness Equipment that is in a state of being functional and
<br />immediately available for issuance to Department
<br />personnel.

<br />IV. PROCEDURE
<br />
<br />A. Property Inventory and Control. The Department shall comply with the
<br />City’s property inventory and control system. A property inventory and
<br />control system shall be used to track the issuance/reissuance of all
<br />personally assigned property. (17.5.2)
