PURPOSE <br /> <br />The Surprise Police Department recognizes that the use of wireless technology <br />has become common in everyday life. The use of these devices can enhance a <br />Department member <br />negative impact on the Department by, among other things, providing <br />unnecessary distractions to members as well as creating an adverse perception <br />by the public. The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines and <br />procedures for the use of electronic and wireless access devices, both City- <br />issued and personally owned. <br /> <br />II. DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />Term Definition <br />Electronic and Defined as devices such as, but not limited to the <br />following: <br />Wireless Access <br />Devices <br /> Cellular Telephones and Accessories (i.e., <br />Bluetooth) <br /> Electronic Notebooks such as iPads, etc. <br /> Personal Laptop Computers <br /> Personal Data Assistants (PDA) <br /> Pocket Personal Computers <br /> Pagers <br /> Electronic Game Devices <br />Use of While the use of wireless access devices is a valuable <br />means of assisting the Department and its members in <br />Wireless Access <br />meeting community outreach, problem-solving, <br />Devices <br />investigative, crime prevention, and related objectives, <br />Department members must also understand the negative <br />impact when these devices are misused. <br />Refer to Section IV of this policy and Department Policy <br />ROC-09, Social Media, for guidelines on the appropriate <br />use of wireless access devices and social media. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
