<br />I.PURPOSE
<br />The purpose of this policy is to establishproceduresregarding the accreditation
<br />process.
<br />II.POLICY
<br />It is the policy of the Surprise Police Department to endorse and meet
<br />professionally recognized standards that are consistent with its mission and
<br />responsibilitiesin accordance with the Commission on Accreditation for Law
<br />Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
<br />III.DEFINITIONS
<br />TERMDEFINITION
<br />AccreditedThe recognition or approval that is received after an
<br />agency successfully demonstrates compliance with a
<br />set of comprehensive standardsto a group of peer
<br />assessors.
<br />Accreditation A Surprise Police Department employee appointed by
<br />the Chief of Police to coordinate the Department’s
<br />Manager (AM)
<br />efforts to achieve and maintain accredited status.
<br />Annual Quality The annual process of reviewing Department policies
<br />which may include revisions or deletions,and collecting
<br />Assurance (AQA)
<br />proofs of compliance.DuringAQA,the Department AM
<br />will provide education and guidanceto employees
<br />responsible for collecting proofs of compliance to
<br />ensure understanding of the accreditation process, and
<br />the requirements for compliancewith established
<br />Department policies, practices,and CALEA standards.

<br />accredited agencies from across the State of Arizona.
