PURPOSE <br /> <br /> This directive establishes guidelines for the notification of personnel in the event <br />of an incident that requires the attention of the affected personnel. <br /> <br />II. POLICY <br /> <br /> The policy of the Surprise Police Department is to follow the below listed <br />procedures when it is necessary to notify the below listed personnel in the event <br />of an incident that requires the attention of the listed personnel. <br /> <br />III. DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />A. Incident Command Officer - Any sworn member of the department holding <br />the rank of Patrol Officer or above who is first on-scene of an incident or <br />event in which the department is involved shall be the Incident Command <br />Officer until relieved of that responsibility by a senior member of the <br />department holding the same or higher rank. <br />B. Personal Injury - Any injury requiring immediate professional treatment in <br />a medical facility or doctor's office. This definition includes fatal injury. <br />C. Serious Incidents Involving Surprise Police Personnel - These incidents <br />include but are not limited to: <br /> <br />1. Collisions involving Department vehicles that result in personal <br />injury. <br />2. Arrests of Department personnel. <br />3. Use of force by officers resulting in personal injury to the <br />suspect/arrestee and/or officer. <br />4. Other incidents as determined by the Division Commanding Officer. <br /> <br />D. Command Staff – Chief of Police, Assistant Chiefs, Division Managers <br />and Lieutenants <br />E. SAU – Special Assignments Unit <br />F. PIO – Public Information Officer <br />G. PSU – Professional Standards Unit <br />H. K-9- Police employee handler of a service dog for narcotic or explosives <br />detection purposes <br />I. CNT – Crisis Negotiation Team <br />J. On-Call Staff Commanding Officer – The on- call command officer of the <br />rank of Lieutenant or above. <br /> <br /> <br />
