PURPOSE <br /> <br />The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures in the selection process for <br />assignment of personnel to specialized assignments and ancillary functions <br />within the Department, establish a documented annual review of those <br />assignments/functions, and procedures for temporary or rotational assignments. <br /> <br />II. POLICY <br /> <br />The policy of the Surprise Police Department is as follows: <br /> <br />A. The Department may set minimum qualifications for specialized <br />assignments and ancillary functions. These qualifications will be listed in <br />the assignment/function announcement. <br />B. All employees in specialized assignments and ancillary functions serve at <br />the discretion of the Chief of Police and can be removed at any time in the <br />best interests of the Department. <br />C. A review of all specialized assignments and ancillary functions will be <br />conducted on an annual basis by the Commander of the Administrative <br />Services Division (ASD). <br />D. Each division will adhere to the procedures listed in this policy for all <br />specialized assignments and ancillary functions. <br />E. The Department shall transfer and assign personnel to address agency <br />needs and promote professional growth. <br /> <br />III. DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />TERM DEFINITION <br />An additional function or responsibility that Department <br />Ancillary <br />employees apply and/or test for that provides essential <br />Function <br />support to the primary operations of the Department. <br />The primary position of responsibility, post of duty, to which <br />Assignment <br />a Department employee is assigned. <br />The duration required of an employee to remain in an <br />Commitment <br />assignment or function before transferring from that <br />Period <br />assignment or function or applying for another assignment <br />as designated by the Department. <br /> <br /> <br />
