PURPOSE <br /> <br />The purpose of this policy is to encourage all department members to maintain a fit, <br />healthy lifestyle that includes physical and emotional wellness. <br /> <br />II. POLICY <br /> <br />It is the policy of the Surprise Police Department to encourage each department <br />member to maintain a level of physical and emotional wellness that will enable them <br />to carry out any task they may be called upon to perform, while minimizing risk of <br />injury and/or illness. <br /> <br />III. PHILOSOPHY <br /> <br />A. Life presents an abundance of stressors both on-the-job and away from it. To <br />assist in dealing with these stressors, the City of Surprise and Surprise <br />Police Department offer a variety of voluntary wellness programs designed to <br />provide its members with the resources and tools by which to address these <br />issues. The programs/resources listed in this policy include: <br /> <br />1. Section V - Surprise Police Department Emotional Wellness Program <br />2. Section VI - Traumatic Event Counseling (ARS 13-673, Craig Tiger <br />Act) <br />3. Section VII - City of Surprise Employee Assistance Program (EAP) <br />4. Section VIII - Surprise Police Department Critical Incident Stress <br />Management (CISM) Program (OPS-18) <br />5. Section IX - Surprise Police Department Chaplain Program <br />(ADM-13) <br />6. Section X - Surprise Police Department Bulletproof Wellness Mobile <br />App <br />7. Section XI - Surprise Police Department Physical Wellness Benefit <br />Program <br />8. Section XII - City of Surprise Employee Wellness Program <br /> <br /> B. While it is not a requirement for department members to have a physical and <br />emotional examination, each member is encouraged to do so on a regular <br />basis to better manage their health and wellness. Physical and emotional <br />wellness contributes to overall good health, effective job performance, fewer <br />incidents of illness and injury, and a professional appearance.
