<br />SURPRISE POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />TRUNARC ANALYZEROPS-55 <br />DATE LAST REVISED NEW REVISEDCALEA PAGE <br />EFFECTIVEDATEDATESTANDARDS MET <br />1of 5 <br />06-21-16 <br />NewN/AYES <br />I.PURPOSE <br />The purpose of this policyis to establish procedures for the TruNarc Raman <br />Handheld Analyzer, which is designed for trained personnel to conduct a single <br />scan for multiple narcotics to obtain clear and definitive results for identification. <br />The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office accepts the results of the TruNarc <br />Raman Handheld Analyzer as a presumptive identification of substance(s) for <br />charging purposes. <br />II.POLICY <br />The policy of the Surprise Police Department is to use the TruNarc Raman <br />Handheld Analyzer, hereafter referred to as the TruNarc Analyzer,in order to <br />provide documentary evidence ofchemical identifications. Members, who have <br />received Department approvedtrainingon the use of the TruNarc Analyzer,shall <br />be authorized to utilize this device to identify substances believed to be illicitor <br />pharmaceutical drugs. <br />III.DEFINITIONS <br />TermDefinition <br />A graphical representation of the wavelengths of light that <br />Spectrum <br />a substance emits when it is stimulated by light energy. <br />A chemical or substance used to “cut” (dilute) an illicit drug <br />Cutting Agents <br />with something less expensive than the drug itself. <br />A substance produced primarily for use, or likely to be <br />Precursors <br />used, in the manufacturing of a controlled substance. <br />IV.PROCEDURES <br />A.Unauthorized use of the TruNarcAnalyzer is strictly prohibited. <br />1.Members shall attendand successfully complete training approved <br />by the Department on the use of the TruNarc Analyzer prior to <br />utilizing the device. <br /> <br />
