<br />SURPRISE POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />TRAFFIC COLLISION INVESTIGATIONSOPS-52 <br />DATE LAST REVISED NEW REVISED CALEA PAGE <br />EFFECTIVEDATEDATESTANDARDS MET <br />1of 13 <br />02-13-1204-30-15YES <br />12-18-06 <br />Note: This policy replaces OPS-16, Addendum 1 <br />I.PURPOSE <br />The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures for response to traffic <br />collisions. <br />II.POLICY <br />The policy of the Surprise Police Department is that traffic collisionswill be <br />investigatedin a consistent, impartial, and timely manner. <br />III.DEFINITIONS <br />TermDefinition <br />Arizona Crash The Arizona Crash Report,Form 01-2704(previously <br />referred to as an Arizona Traffic Accident Report),is <br />Report <br />the State form that must be completed for any <br />(ACR) <br />reportable traffic collision. <br />City VehicleAny vehicle owned or leased by the City including; <br />buses, vans, and utility vehicles. <br />Motor VehicleAny mechanically or electrically powered device, not <br />operated on rails, upon which, or by which any person <br />or property may be transported upon a roadway. <br />Motor Vehicle -When applied to motor vehicles it includes: <br />In Transport <br />A motor vehicle in motion. <br />A motor vehicle in traffic or on a highway. <br />A driverless motor vehicle in motion. <br />A motionless motor vehicle abandoned or <br />disabled on a roadway. <br />On roadway lanes used for travel during rush <br />hours, and parking during offpeak hours, a <br />parked vehicle is in transport during periods <br />when parking isforbidden. <br />Private Property Motor vehicle collisions where the unstabilized <br />situation, leading to damage, injury, or death, does not <br />Collision <br />originate nor occur on a trafficway. <br />Private property collisions include collisions occurring <br />in parking lots, driveways outside the trafficway, on <br />private property, farmland, or in the desert. <br /> <br />
