PURPOSE <br /> <br />The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures related to specific <br />compensation affecting employees of the Surprise Police Department. <br /> <br />II. POLICY <br /> <br />The policy of the Surprise Police Department is to provide fair compensation to <br />all employees in accordance with the City of Surprise Employee Policy Manual <br />(EPM), Memorandums of Understanding (MOU), as well as local, state and <br />federal laws. <br /> <br />III. DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />Term Definition <br />Base Pay or An emprate of pay without additional <br />compensation such as overtime, specialty pay, etc. <br />Regular Rate of Pay <br />Exempt An employee who, due to the nature of the duties and <br />responsibilities of their employment position with the <br />Employee <br />Department, are exempt from the minimum wage and <br />overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act <br />(FLSA). Exempt employees are expected to work the <br />hours necessary to accomplish the goals and <br />objectives of their exempt position, and are <br />compensated by a fixed salary rather than hours <br />worked. <br />Flex To temporaril <br />quitting times for a day or days in a workweek to adjust <br />hours for the workweek. <br />Memorandum of Memorandum of Understanding between the City of <br />Surprise (COS) and the Surprise Police Employees <br />Understanding <br />Association (SPEA). <br />(MOU) <br /> <br /> <br />
